SURIGAO DEL SUR — Vice President Sara Duterte traveled to Surigao del Sur on February 25, 2026 to personally assess the situation of areas affected by Typhoon Basyang, visiting Barangay Nurcia in Lanuza, the poblacion of Cortes, and Barangay Maitum in Tandag City.
The visit came after an earlier stop in Iligan City the same day.
Duterte urged residents to remain calm, heed advisories from authorities, and comply with preemptive evacuation orders when issued.
She also reminded residents to prepare go bags containing food, water, medicine, and other essential supplies in the event of a disaster.
The vice president expressed gratitude to the local government of Surigao del Sur and to residents for their warm welcome despite the hardships brought by the typhoon.
